Summer of Fun 2008

All summer we've been going and going. It all started in June when we drove to Wayweep - Lake Powell, to meet up with our good friends the Harrills and their wonderful friends Mike and Cindy Rawls and kids from Denver on their houseboat "Good to Go". It was a great weekend until Monday morning when Hayden tried the knee board, and the board came up and popped him in the middle of his face (between his top lip and nose). Everyone on the houseboat agreed Hayden would need stitches. Terry hadn't brought small enough stitches, in his doctor bag, so we had to pack up and motor back to Wayweep Marina and try to get into Page's hospital. Unfortunatlely, the ER was very busy, and wouldn't just let us buy sutures, or let Terry stitch Hayden up himself. So we made arrangements with Navajo Mtn to have the medical director's wife drive out to the highway and meet us on the side of the road. Terry pushed forward the front seat of our truck, Hayden laid across the back seat, they draped him for surgery - and 7 or 8 stitches and an hour later Hayden was done getting his cut closed. Thank goodness the cut didn't rip through his lip or he didn't break his teeth or nose.

The day Hayden's stitches came out I received a call from BYU asking if Hayden was still planning to attend the Youth MusicFestival (I'll alternative to EFY)... I said, "Of coarse! We can't wait!" and the girl said, "He was supposed to be here last night to check in" - I was floored! I thought, "On Father's Day? How can that be? How did I have the dates wrong?" and sure enough - I'd messed it up in the dayplanner.... ugh! So, there was no way Hayden could play his trombone with a newley healed lip area.... I was sooo sad. But they did refund most of our money.... and there's next year....

Isn't he so cute with his "little mustach"?
